Wynne Senior Residences is a 51-unit apartment building located at 2001 N. 54th Street in the Overbrook neighborhood of Philadelphia. For years, the former Wynne Theater sat vacant on the site, causing concern to the local community and unsafe for occupancy. With tremendous support from neighborhood groups and the City of Philadelphia, Pennrose, LLC and its joint venture partner Wynnefield-Overbrook Revitalization Corporation (WORC) worked together to redevelop the site into a brand new senior facility that will provide much needed affordable housing for the local senior population, and a variety of amenities for the neighborhood as a whole.
The new facility on the site of the former Wynne Theater is designed to replicate much of the architectural heritage of the previously iconic building. The building was histrionically used as a ballroom, cinema, and later a catering facility.
The 51-unit senior residence is comprised of forty-six 700 square foot, one bed, one bath units and five, 900 square foot two bed, one bath units.
Various common areas throughout the building create opportunities for social interaction, wellness, and recreational activities. First floor amenities include a large community with, longe and retail space. Common laundry facilities, wellness center, and library are located on the upper floors. Outdoor amenities include a patio and covered parking for eleven cars.
Wynne Senior Residences lies in an area with a high concentration of amenities targeted at the senior population. Grocery stores, Senior Centers, public transportation, pharmacies, hospitals and more lie only a short distance from Wynne Senior. Furthermore, the development lies within the service area of the Philadelphia Corporation for Aging, which contracts with other community organizations to provide a full menu of services for older people and people with disabilities, including access to “care-at-home” services, legal assistance, transportation, and home delivered meals.
